Europe College: lecture series about the future of the EU

The European Union is at a crossroads. But which path can or should the EU take in order to deal successfully with the challenges it faces? This autumn, Europe Direct The Hague and the Institute of Political Science at Leiden University (Campus The Hague) are hosting Europe College where we discuss the future of the EU with you.

Challenging times for the European Union

The European Union has faced both external and internal crises in recent years. While the transatlantic relationship has entered a new phase and the Brexit is imminent, the EU has started to look for ways to shore up its resilience, to provide security to its citizens and to make sure it remains a global actor.

Looking at the upcoming elections for the European Parliament in the spring of 2019, many experts argue that the EU is entering a crucial phase, with several member states are contesting the EU’s workings, methods, and fundamental values.

Europe College

In order to explain and discuss these recent developments Europe Direct The Hague and the Institute of Political Science at Leiden University have jointly prepared a series of two public lectures this autumn, called the Europe College.

The aim of this Europe College is to bring together students, professors and interested professionals from The Hague and discuss the current challenges and the future outlook of the European Union.

In our lectures, well-known scientists, journalists and politicians, from the Netherlands and abroad, will develop their (own) view on the current stage of the Union. Together with you, researchers will complement the discussion.

The moderator for the lecture series is Victor Vlam.
